Lucy Hale opened up about her sobriety journey further after celebrating two years of sobriety on January 2.

The Drew Barrymore Show just released a clip of an upcoming interview with Hale on Instagram, in which the host and guest discuss her sobriety journey. Barrymore explained that he stopped drinking alcohol in public about two years after he quit drinking.

"OK, something happens in the second year: ...... feels like that to me," Hale said, and Barrymore asked why she thought so.

"The first year, it's like, 'Okay, stay safe. The "Pretty Little Liars" star said. 'Certain elements of my life were gone. But the second year, I think I learned... I had fun. I learned how to have fun.... Gave a new definition to fun. Lately, fun has taken on a different form. I went out, went to dinners, attended events, and didn't avoid anything."

The talk show host then said that she had "had an epiphany" and that perhaps two years could have been when someone began to trust themselves again and was ready to share their sobriety with the world.

"I think for me it was like, 'Oh, I feel safe in my body again. I wouldn't trade that feeling for anything,'" Hale told her.

Barrymore reciprocated, "You have inspired me a lot."

Hale did, in fact, publicly disclose her sobriety around the one-year mark in February 2023, showing off a cake she received in celebration, and she has since opened up further about her experience.

She wrote at the time, "This journey has been mostly private, but tonight I felt I wanted to let those who are suffering know that you are not alone and are loved."

And a few weeks ago, she posted again on Instagram to mark the second anniversary. She received congratulations from Troian Bellisario, Demi Lovato, Kunal Nayyar, Lana Condor, and others.
