Jeff Tweedy Says Dolly Parton Should Not Have Written "I Will Always Love You"

Jeff Tweedy seems to want Dolly Parton's fans to hate her forever. He gleefully said something on a late night show, and just a few days before her birthday (January 19), that was frankly unacceptable about her music. It is shameful! [The Wilco singer and guitarist appeared on Stephen Colbert's "The Late Show" to discuss her memoir, "World Within a Song: Music That Changed My Life and Life That Changed My Music" In the book, he discusses some of his more controversial views on music.

"The book would sound really silly if I didn't own a few things that don't work for me, and one of them is 'I Will Always Love You,'" Tweedy told Colbert.

"Did you hear the breathtaking voice?" the host asked him, referring to the audience's reaction. 'It's Dolly Parton. You don't like Dolly Parton."

Tweedy defended himself, "No, I love Dolly."

But Colbert was as shocked as we were, and continued, "I'm not a fan of Dolly Parton. You said Dolly Parton has no talent, Jeff Tweedy."

The rock star added: "I don't know what she's talking about. All I know is that she wrote 'Jolene' and 'I Will Always Love You' on the same day. Hey, hey.

Tweedy added, to be fair I know it's wrong." You don't say that. !!!!

Anyway, despite the fact that this whole situation is very awkward, I think everyone is entitled to their personal opinion. Still, Whitney Houston's performance of "I Will Always Love You" spent 14 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Top 100 in 1992.
