Read MoreThere seems to be a holiday for literally everything, and in case you didn't know, July 29 is National Lipstick Day (3 days away!). Apparently. If you want to rock lipstick like a royal, you've come to the right place-we're here, from the Princess of Wales (both of them!) ) to Queen Elizabeth, we break down our favorite shades of the royal family.
According to Hello Magazine, like many things, the royal family has a royal rule when it comes to choosing lipstick, "which means sticking to neutral, natural shades to avoid makeup mistakes. The queen, however, never followed such a strict routine, preferring to wear lips much lighter than those of her younger colleagues. (This is a far cry from her preference for nude or pale pink nail polish. Her favorite shade was Essie's ballet slippers.) Let's take a closer look.
The late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
The aforementioned Queen is rarely seen without her signature shade, and has been photographed repeatedly reapplying it over the years (which is very relatable). The late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, as she would do when she became monarch, had a custom red lipstick by Clarins (to match her ceremonial robes, according to the Hello Report), but she also loved Elizabeth Arden lipstick, and the brand was even a royal warrant.
Princess Catherine
Kate, like many of us, is a Bobbi Brown aficionado and prefers a "nude, natural lip" with Bobbi Brown Sandwash Pink Lipstick, reports Hello. (Sandwash Pink is unfortunately discontinued, but the line's Pink Cloud is a similar shade.) When she married Prince William in 2011, "she is believed to have applied a dab of Bobbi Brown sheer-colored lip gloss on top for added shine," the magazine wrote.
Sussex.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Meghan is a self-confessed beauty lover, and her taste is impeccable: her favorite lipstick brand is reportedly Honest Beauty's Truly Kissable lip crayon, Another top pick is Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution Lipstick in Very Victoria - "a spicy brown shade created for Victoria Beckham," Hello reports. For her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Princess Meghan matched Dior's Lip Glow in Coral Glow - a sheer balm that enhances one's own lip color - under a lip crayon.
Princess Diana
Princess Diana often went more natural when it came to lip color, but "Princess Diana occasionally wore a reddish orange tone with hints of brown," Hello reported. (For her engagement shoot for Vogue, Diana wore Max Factor's Tint of Pink lipstick. That was 1981, so that color is discontinued, but fear not - Max Factor's Color Elixir Lipstick in Pink Brandy is a similar color.
Zara Tindall
Princess Anne's only daughter wore Bobbi Brown on her 2011 wedding day to Mike Tindall, as did her cousin-in-law Kate. She wore the line's shimmer lip gloss, and "we're guessing she's a fan of the subtle yet shiny shades of Bare Sparkle," Harrow wrote.
Lady Kitty Spencer
Princess Diana's glamorous niece, according to Harrow, combined Charlotte Tilbury's lip colors, Super Cindy and Pillow Talk, to create her own bespoke lip shade. 'If you can't find the perfect nude color, just mix them together.'
