Read MoreThese days, when I think of Montecito, California, I think of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (although, of course, many other celebrities live there). Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made Montecito their home since retiring from their work as senior royals in early 2020, but OK reports that the Sussex family may soon make a new place their home: Malibu, just over an hour from their current residence.
The move will bring the couple closer to Los Angeles, which they hope will bring them closer to central Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. The decision comes on the heels of Megan's signing with the powerful talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) and the successful Ari Emanuel to lead her team.
"Harry and Meghan are considering their living options, and Malibu is on the short list," said one source. 'They have secretly visited the area several times to see what it has to offer.'
Meghan, of course, grew up in L.A. "Meghan knows some of the area from being there as a child," the source said." It is unclear whether she will sell "Montecito" or just buy an additional spot in Malibu. The move is being considered as Megan is shifting her focus back to Hollywood with WME."
The move is a smart one, sources say: "It's smart to be close to Beverly Hills and LA, where the deals are done. And, of course, there's the real Malibu scene where the big stars, producers, and studio execs hang out at dinners and beach parties, mingle, and close deals."
Princess Meghan already has a friend who lives in Malibu, and "she likes spots like Soho House," the source said, referring to the L.A. branch of where Harry and Meghan met on a blind date in London in 2016." Certainly, Prince Harry and Princess Meghan would be welcome and desired guests at many major parties."
Archie will turn 5 next year and is getting ready to start school, which was also a factor in their decision, sources said.
"There are a lot of star kids in Malibu who enjoy regular school," the source said. It's not a big deal to have all the A-list kids together," according to the Daily Express.According to the Daily Express, the commute from Montecito, where Harry and Meghan currently live, to Los Angeles can take up to three hours during rush hour. The Montecito home was purchased for $14.65 million and features nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a game room, gym, tennis courts, and tea house. If the Sussexes choose to sell, they could sell it for even more than the purchase price, the Daily Express reported.
Incidentally, Malibu is home to such celebrities as Leonardo DiCaprio, Lady Gaga, Cher, and Miley Cyrus.
