Body language expert points to "turning point" in Princess Kate's relationship with her daughter Princess Charlotte

Marie Claire reported yesterday on the special relationship between Prince William and his only daughter, Princess Charlotte, but the young royal also has a close relationship with her mother, Princess Kate. The Daily Express noted that body language expert Judy James noticed a "turning point" in the mother-daughter relationship and a bit of insight into the bond they share.

"Kate goes to great lengths to engage with and inform her daughter," James says. Her Highness in particular uses "expressive gestures" to "build her [Charlotte's] enthusiasm, anticipation, and excitement."

"Charlotte, now 8, is a staple at Sandringham's annual events such as Christmas, Easter, and Trooping the Colour, and has attended special events such as the late King's Platinum Jubilee last summer and King Charles' coronation last May.

"Judging by Charlotte's facial expressions and body language, Kate may soon be forced into this role and begin to just sit back and relax in public.

"In any parent-child relationship, there is a time when friendships grow out of the nurturing role. This occurs when parents begin to enjoy the same communication and shared pleasures as their children, and such a turning point appears to be occurring in Kate and Charlotte's relationship."

Charlotte often mirrors Kate, not only in her attire (who can forget the matching tiara moment at the coronation?), but also in her gestures, expressions, and overall demeanor.

"As the years have gone by," James said, "there has been a sense of enjoying the same feeling between Kate and her daughter, and between Charlotte and her father William.

James also spoke about George, who will reach the milestone of being 10 years old in just a few days. James said he found "a very clever psychology" in Kate, who acts "not only as a mother, but as the mother of the future King of England." Normally William is "the mentor to his son," but Kate occasionally steps into that role, especially at sporting events, "pointing out aspects of the game," James said. Another tool Kate uses is to lower herself to the height of the child "instead of crouching."
