Prince George and Princess Charlotte Break Wimbledon Rules Yesterday

Prince George and Princess Charlotte, along with their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, attended the men's singles final at Wimbledon yesterday to everyone's delight. However, according to the Mirror, the two were not planning to attend the tournament.

"Children can join the show court as long as they keep quiet," the paper reported, "but they are not normally allowed in the royal box. The rule of no children allowed has been strictly adhered to, but in recent years an exception has been made for the royals." After all, it is the Royal Box, after all. ...... (And speaking of quiet children, watch out world, when Prince Louis has his moment in the Royal Box in a few years.)

George also broke another rule last year when Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios played in a tournament. Although the royals are supposed to remain neutral, royal correspondent Richard Palmer said, "Someone shouted at George about who he wanted to see win (the match). It seems he (George) said he wanted Djokovic to win." (Did he want Djokovic to win again this year, or did he want Carlos Alcaraz, the eventual winner, to win? .......) Palmer added that as royalty, "you really shouldn't do that."

Children are not supposed to sit in the royal box under any circumstances, and "this rule has reportedly ruffled feathers in the past," the Mirror reported.

"In 1999, it was widely reported that the Duchess of Kent asked the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club if she could have a 12-year-old guest in attendance. The boy was the son of the Duchess's late friend, and the Duchess wanted to give the grieving child a special day. However, her request was denied and an alternative seat outside the Royal Box was offered instead.

It caused such a stir that club president John Currie issued a statement: "Due to the demand for space in the Royal Box, aside from the children of the Royal Family, children are not invited as it would exclude from attendance many other worthy people who contribute to tennis. Please," he stated.

According to The Sun, other rules in the Royal Box prohibit women from wearing hats so as not to block their view.
