Ryan Gosling responds to backlash over his role as Ken in the "Barbie" movie: "Did you ever think about Ken before this?"

Ryan Gosling will star as Ken, the Barbie played by Margot Robbie, in Greta Gerwig's highly anticipated Barbie movie.

Unfortunately, Gosling's Ken has received a lot of backlash online, with people saying the 42-year-old actor is "too old" to play the fictional Himbo doll (we now know that Ken's job, whatever that means, is simply "beach")

The Notebook star was asked about the backlash in a new interview with GQ and replied, "If people don't want to play with my Ken, there are plenty of other Kens to play with. It's that simple.

Later in the interview, Gosling added Did you ever think about Ken before this?" He added.

He noted that the puppet's job was "beach," and continued, "And people were fine with that, with him having a job that was nothing." [But all of a sudden, he said, 'No, we've always been concerned about Ken. That's not true. We didn't care. We never cared. Barbie has never fucked Ken. That's the point."

"If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. That is why his story must be told."

If Gosling sounds a bit defensive at this point, that's because he is. He adds, "I'm not a lawyer. I'm sort of his agent. Ken couldn't make it here to accept the award, so I'm here to accept it for him."

I have to admit, I like this a lot.

The Barbie movie, which just released a new trailer last week, will be released on July 21. Of course.
