Prince Harry blames tabloid's "vile behavior" for sending him into a "downward spiral" in court testimony.

Prince Harry has arrived at the High Court in London to be cross-examined in his case against Mirror Group Newspapers.

In a witness interview seen by BBC News, the Duke of Sussex elaborated on what he has told at length in recent months, particularly his relationship with the British tabloids in his childhood and teenage years.

The Duke argued that his famous antics as a young man were also the result of the newspaper's attempt to fit him into the role it had already cast him in, that of a more or less out-of-control party boy.

"In my experience as a member of the Royal Family," Harry said, "each of us is cast in a particular role by the tabloids. [You start out as a blank canvas while they examine who you are and what problems and temptations you might have. Then they get you to play the role that is most convenient for them and that will sell as many newspapers as possible."

[8 [In my teens and early twenties, I felt like I was playing many of the headlines and stereotypes that newspapers wanted to put on me.

"It was a downward spiral, with the tabloids constantly trying to coax me, a 'damaged' young man, into doing something stupid that would make a good story and sell a lot of papers."

"In hindsight, such behavior on their part is utterly vile."

Court proceedings in the case began in early May. At the time, the Miller Group claimed that certain tabloid stories about Prince Harry had come directly from members of the royal family, a claim supported by Harry himself in a Netflix documentary in December.
