Marie Claire spoke yesterday about Kate's fondness for a country house called Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Norfolk is a "tight-knit community, especially among owners of high-end estates," one insider said, and Hanbury lives about 15 minutes from the country house that William and Kate share with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and their children. Rumors of William and Hanbury's affair have caused awkward situations in tight-knit Norfolk, but Kate and Hanbury also met at King Charles' coronation last month: Hanbury's son Oliver served as chamberlain with George.

"There was tension between them because of the nasty gossip," the source said. [At the coronation] they got a chance to talk and reconcile for the first time in a long time." Now there will be no awkwardness in their social circles this summer."

Rumors of an affair began in 2019, with speculation that William may have had an affair with Kate's friend, Hanbury. Kate reportedly questioned William about it, but William "laughed it off, saying it was nothing."
