Prince William and Princess Kate have reportedly "given up" on staying in an Adelaide cottage that is "too small."

Prince William and Princess Kate chose to make their home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor because it was a very "normal" house by royal standards. It has even been reported several times that they are not interested in living near Windsor Castle, where they could have a more grandiose lifestyle.

But now we hear rumors that the Prince and Princess of Wales wants to move into the Royal Lodge, the current home of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. However, this seems unlikely, as the Daily Beast reports that Andrew has refused to vacate the house.

"The Palace originally wanted Andrew to leave the Royal Lodge so that it could be renovated and prepared for a new lodger," a source familiar with the situation said OK!

"The Prince and Princess of Wales are in Windsor They desperately wanted a larger property for their family in the district, and discussions initially focused on getting them to live there. Andrew, however, is far from it and is adamant about seeing the Royal Lodge through to the end of their lease."

A second source, this time from Kensington Palace, corroborated these claims, saying, "William and Kate love the cottage, but it is too small for them. It has four bedrooms and just barely fits everyone, but there are other considerations. Staff and other factors need to be considered as well."

Currently, the Waleses have no live-in staff for the first time since their children were born.

Palace officials added that the royal couple does not have enough space to work from home and cannot host many guests. They said, "They were looking for a larger home, but have now resigned themselves to the fact that they will be stuck in the cottage because no other properties are open to them."

These sources make the situation sound pretty dire, but Jenny Bond, an honest royal expert, put things a little more in perspective for us.

"I don't think William and Catherine would be that upset. They chose Adelaide Cottage because they wanted a more normal life for their children," she says.

"Of course, they still have an apartment at Kensington Palace and a big house (Anmer Hall) in Norfolk ...... So they are well aware of the grand lifestyle and maybe living in a relatively ordinary four-bedroom house (surrounded by thousands of acres of stunning Windsor estate countryside) is not such a bad option."

Bond further suggested that the Royal Lodge might be a better fit for the family when the children are a bit older, but that they would be happy enough in Adelaide for the time being. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Kensington Palace stated that "the Welsh couple have no plans to move house."

Currently, Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah share the Royal Lodge. Royal family expert Richard Palmer recently said of the unusual arrangement, "Of course, some people speculate that they live there as a married couple, but [they] insist that is not the case."
