In a spate of Father's Day-inspired social media posts on Sunday, fans were delighted as Sarah Hyland gave a special shout-out not only to her own father, but also to a TV dad: Ty Burrell, who plays opposite Hyland's character Haley on "Modern Family." played Phil Dunphy.

According to BuzzFeed, Hyland and her husband Wells Adams co-posted on Instagram, writing, "Happy Father's Day to all the dads in your life!" #fathersday," she wrote. The photo shows Hyland and Adams' fathers, Edward Hyland and Robert Adams, respectively, as well as a barrel in which Hyland's character shared one of the healthiest father-daughter relationships on screen.

"Phil Dunphy's appearance in the film made me cry a little. 'Phil is the father of EVERYBODYS. There is no greater father figure than Phil Dunphy."

Burrell and Hyland have maintained a close relationship since filming on Modern Family wrapped in 2020. In fact, Burrell was scheduled to officiate Hyland and Adams' wedding last August, but had to withdraw due to a family emergency. In the end, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, another "Modern Family" co-star, was chosen to officiate.

"I don't know if you guys know, but Ty Burrell was supposed to do it, but there was a family emergency," Ferguson told "Entertainment Tonight" at the time. "We got a call 12 days before the wedding, and Ty wasn't going to be there. He had a lot going on."

He continued. "But I asked Ty, 'What were the bullet points you were going to talk about?' He hadn't written anything down yet, but he had some ideas. This is a jumping off point. I'm honored to be on the show. I'm very happy to be filling in for Ty Burrell."
