Prince Harry did not hear directly from Prince Charles about coronation invitation, sources claim

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were invited to King Charles' coronation, but according to one source, there was no "sit-down" as Harry had hoped. In fact, the invitation came via the King's office, not the King himself.

"There was no contact from Charles. Harry wanted to hear directly from his father.

Eventually, however, father and son were able to speak and had a "positive conversation," according to another source.

This confirms earlier reports that the two had a heart-to-heart talk about Harry's attendance at the coronation, indicating that there was "a willingness and desire on both sides to repair the situation."

A friend who spoke to People added that for the Duke of Sussex, "this is more about the son showing up for his father than the optics of the institution."

In early March, the Sussexes confirmed in a statement that they had been invited.

A spokesman for the couple said at the time, "We can confirm that the Duke recently received an email communication from Her Majesty's office regarding the coronation. No immediate decision as to whether the Duke and Duchess will attend can be made public by us at this time."

The Duke and Duchess have not yet received a statement from Her Majesty's Office.

It then took several weeks to reach a final decision, which resulted in Prince Harry attending the historic event and his wife, Princess Meghan, staying at home with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

A close friend told People, "Meghan wants to be there to support her father-in-law, but at the same time, the scrutiny she receives outweighs the support.

"There's always someone to challenge their reason, and who wants to put themselves in that position?

Indeed, Harry and Meghan were not particularly warmly received at the Queen's Jubilee last year, so it makes sense that the Duchess would want to shield herself from that scrutiny this time around.
