Jennifer Garner says she is grateful her 17-year-old daughter was banned from social networking sites

Jennifer Garner (whose latest film, "The Last Thing He Told Me," will be available on Apple TV+ on Friday) appeared on NBC's "Today" to discuss social media and the three children she has with ex-husband Ben Affleck, Violet, Serafina Rose, and Samuel. She told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager that none of her three children are allowed to use social media platforms.

"I just tell my kids, 'Show me an article that proves that social media is good for teenagers. ' 'Find me some scientific evidence that matches what I have that it's not good for teenagers. Then we can talk."

Of the decision, Garner said, "My oldest daughter is grateful. Violet is 17, Serafina Rose is 14, and Samuel is 11, and Garner said of keeping the younger two off social media, "We'll see. It's a long road. We've got a couple more, so we'll see if we can hang in there. We'll see if we can really hang in there."

According to People, Garner has long had strong opinions about keeping her children away from social media; in 2019, on her "Next Question with Katie Couric" podcast, she said that then-13-year-old Violet spoke about why she was banned from Instagram: "I worry about kids having to deal with this new pressure without having famous parents," she said. 'My daughter goes to an all-girls school and it's a huge issue. I'm on Instagram, which is sort of a fun thing I do, and it's the opposite of what I want my daughter to do. That happens all the time in parenting."

Garner continued. 'But everything you see, there is nothing there that is positive for you. But everything you see, I don't see anything positive for you there."

Garner continued, "I don't see anything positive for you there.

Although Garner admitted that participating in social media "makes me feel more connected," she revealed that she joined Instagram with reluctance and has continued to do it her own way ever since.

"I joined Instagram because of 'Once Upon a Farm,'" she said, referring to her organic baby food company. I joined Instagram because of 'Once Upon a Farm.' There are a lot of companies in L.A. that do social media on your behalf. You have to do it your way. I went out and did what I thought was right for me."
