Read MoreVeteran royal correspondent Robert Jobson's latest book, Our King, is a bombshell about the Princess of Wales as well as the ongoing feud between Prince Harry and his father Prince Charles and brother Prince William. But the book also talks about the late Her Majesty the Princess, particularly with regard to Harry's relationship with his wife Meghan Markle.
The book claims that the Queen was "mystified" by Harry and Meghan's decision to step down from active membership in the royal family in January 2020, and that the Queen felt Harry was "consumed" by his love for Meghan, which "clouded his judgment."
The Mirror quoted the same book as saying that the Queen was "disappointed" by Sussex's decision to step down and saw the couple's departure as a "lost opportunity," Jobson wrote. Despite her disappointment, Her Majesty the Queen had "great affection" for her grandson Harry and hoped he would "find peace and happiness"
when he moved from his native England to Meghan's home country, the United States. Jobson writes, "In fact, by the time my grandmother died, Harry had few family members left to support him." Even the Queen, who had always shown great affection for Harry, eventually grew tired of his outbursts." First, the queen was fed up with the volatile exchanges between Harry and his brother, sometimes in front of her. Then Harry and Meghan began to publicly criticize both the monarchy and members of the royal family"
.
Jobson continues. "At that point, the queen was wondering, frankly describing their behavior as 'quite mad.' However, she came to believe that her grandson was "consumed" by his love for his wife and that this was "clouding his judgment."
The book also quotes a royal source as saying that Harry regularly called his grandmother from his new home base in California, but she found the conversations "rather difficult and tiresome" and urged Harry to speak directly with Charles.
The book also describes a tense exchange between father and son when Harry tried to tell Charles about his plans to marry Meghan, but William had already beaten him to it. After Harry told Charles himself, William spoke first again and asked, "Are you sure about this, Harold?" He reportedly asked. Charles then told Harry that he and his wife Camilla, William and his wife Kate, and their three children "cannot afford to pay for Meghan in the future." Harry was reportedly "furious" at this.
The Mirror also reported another passage from the book, an exchange between the Queen and Meghan in which the Duchess of Sussex gave advice when she was new to the royal family. In a one-on-one chat between the Queen and Meghan, the Queen "warmly welcomed" Meghan, saying that Her late Majesty was "very pleased that Harry has finally found love." The Queen advised Princess Meghan to turn to Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Meghan's reply was, "I have Harry," the book claims. Jobson writes that the queen was "surprised" by Meghan's statement.
Our King was released on April 13.
