Failure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to show up for coronation would be 'fatal and irreversible blow' to royal rift: expert

Okay, I'm getting strangely nervous.

It's almost April, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have yet to respond (or at least make their responses public) to attend the historic coronation of Charles III on May 6.

It seems highly unrealistic to imagine that at least Prince Harry will not attend. Friction or not, it is literally his father's coronation, and the first event of its kind in 71 years.

Even though experts do not want a reconciliation, most believe that the Duke of Sussex will attend the big day.

"In a universe where the damage caused by the rift already created is still at least partially recoverable, an absence would be a fatal and irreparable blow, both in public perception and potentially within the family," PR expert Edward Coram-James told Express.

"It would be a fatal and irreversible blow to the public perception of the family and potentially within the family.

"There is a danger of dragging out the conflict for a long time."

While some might argue that not having the Sussexes present would not take away from the focus of the day, Coram-James believes this argument does not hold water.

"If the Sussexes don't attend, they will get as much, if not more, media attention.

"It would further add to the friction and suspicion that the Sussexes have been hurling at the Royal Family."

And, he concluded, "And the shadow of their absence looms large over the entire ceremony, becoming the elephant in the room and risking becoming an unwanted side show."

By contrast, when the Sussexes attended the Queen's Jubilee last year, the focus was not on them, and there is reason to believe the situation will be similar at the coronation.

Translation: It's better and easier for everyone.
