Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "wanted the palace to jump on board" with Archie and Lili's royal title announcement, royal expert claims

When the Queen sadly passed away in September and Prince Charles became King, Archie and Lilibet were automatically entitled to use the titles "Prince" and "Princess" if their parents chose.

Until recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle showed no sign of announcing whether their children would use the royal titles. The king could have banned them from using them if he chose, but he did not do so either.

The Sussexes then issued a statement announcing that their daughter had been baptized in Los Angeles, calling her "Princess Lilibet Diana." A few hours later, the royal couple said, "Ever since my grandfather became monarch, our children's titles have been bestowed upon them at birth. This issue has been settled before, in agreement with Buckingham Palace."

The royal couple then stated, "We have been in agreement with Buckingham Palace for some time now.

Shortly thereafter, the palace changed the children's titles to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

However, it is not known what really happened, although reports are circulating that the King felt "blindsided" by the Sussexes' sudden decision to use the titles.

According to one royal expert, the situation did not go the way the Sussexes wanted it to; Ingrid Sward, speaking to the Mirror, contrasted the announcement for Lili with the way the King officially announced that Prince Edward would be the Duke of Edinburgh .

"Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan asked their publicist to announce that their 21-month-old daughter Lilibet would be baptized in the royal style Princess when she was christened in Los Angeles last week. Archie uses the style of Prince," Sward said.

"How interesting that they waited six months for this. I guess they were hoping that the Palace would make a preemptive announcement. Bad luck."
