Apparently there is a "bit of a debate" over Prince George's role at the coronation.

According to leaked coronation plans, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis' three children will play leading roles in the landmark event, the Mirror reports. [At the end of the May 6 ceremony, when King Charles and Queen Camilla will be crowned side by side at Westminster Abbey, all of William and Kate's children will join the procession back to Buckingham Palace.

The Times (opens in new tab) reports that leaked coronation rehearsal plans show that the trio will be open to the public that day and that the post-coronation carriage procession will be significantly smaller and shorter than the late Majesty's, although the Palace says it will be "remarkable both in size and splendor."

"The Palace has also stated that it will be "a great success.

Marie Claire magazine recently reported that George will be the centerpiece of the event as heir to the throne, but the Daily Express reports that William and Kate are "worried" about George's role in the ceremony. According to the paper, although all three children will be present, George's role will be more prominent, and the parents are worried that George will be under too much pressure due to his increased exposure to the spotlight.

"I've heard from my sources that there is a bit of a debate going on about whether George should take on a more formal role," royal writer Tom Quinn tells the Daily Express. Kate and William are apparently concerned that it would be too much of a burden on George."

The Welsh threesome has already made numerous appearances at official royal functions, but their parents want their childhood to be as normal as possible, despite the circumstances. There have been occasions when William and Harry have been forced to attend official functions that they should not have been allowed to attend. Most famously, at their mother's funeral, they walked behind her casket at that age," Quinn says. 'Many people criticized it and said it was terrible to let two boys that young, especially Harry. If George is going to play the role of a pageboy at the coronation, isn't that going too far back into the traditional role? So I hear there is a pretty intense debate going on right now about what to do with it. From what I've heard, it hasn't been decided yet." (Incidentally, at the time of his mother's funeral, William was 15 and Harry was only 12. George was nine.)

George will one day be crowned at Westminster Abbey, but he is not the first young heir to attend the ceremony. Prince Charles attended his mother's coronation at only four years old, sitting beside his grandmother, the Dowager Queen, and his aunt, Princess Margaret.

And according to the Daily Mail, Louis, who just turned five two weeks ago on April 23, will attend after speculation that he was too young to attend. Louis, along with his siblings and parents, will ride in the carriage behind the Gold State Coach with Charles and Camilla.
