On January 15, Marie Claire reported that Prince Charles was "angry and outraged" that Prince Harry had attacked his wife, Princess Camilla, in Harry's memoir, Spare, which was released just five days earlier, on January 10.

What did we not know at the time? Prince Charles apparently began the process of removing Harry and his wife Meghan Markle from their home in England, Frogmore Cottage, on January 11, just one day after the book's release.

According to the Daily Mail (UK), Charles believes that Harry went too far with his comments about Camilla. (In one interview, Harry called his stepmother a "villain," which, not surprisingly, did not sit well with Charles.) The King's decision to get rid of Harry and Meghan was a painful and difficult one, but in his eyes, it had to be done, the magazine reported. With the support of Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales, and after reading a document summarizing the findings of his aides regarding the contents of Spare, Prince Charles began eviction proceedings the day after the memoirs were published.

"It was the last straw," says one source. Harry knew full well that Camilla was a red line for his father, and he totally ignored it. The King definitely felt that a line had been crossed.

As if there wasn't enough chatter about whether Harry and Meghan would or would not attend Charles' coronation on May 6, the Frogmore eviction further complicates matters: now, if the Sussexes choose to attend, where will they stay?" (They may actually be able to stay at Frogmore for that visit-The Daily Mail reports that the Sussexes are scheduled to move out by early summer and that the coronation trip will be one of their last greetings in the UK if they choose to visit. (Initially, Harry and Meghan were reportedly asked to move out when their lease is up for renewal next month.)

Nevertheless, one insider said, "It felt like ripping off a Band-Aid. It hurts, but once you do it, it's over."

For Prince Charles, though he was tormented by the slander against himself and other members of his family, the slander against Camilla in particular seemed to go too far. Arthur Edwards, a friend of the king's, wrote: "One may criticize the king, but one is not allowed to condemn Camilla's leaks.

The Mirror reported that Harry and Meghan were "stunned" and "appalled" that they had been ousted. Dr. Tessa Dunlop, an expert on the royal family, said that Prince Charles' actions were in direct contravention of His late Majesty's wishes to keep Harry and Meghan, and that the eviction was "a huge mistake. The optics are terrible."

While Harry and Meghan were being evicted from Frogmore, the Daily Mail reported that Frogmore was offered to Prince Andreu, who reportedly did not want to leave his home of 20 years at the Royal Lodge.

According to the Mirror, Dunlop said, "By conflating Harry and Andrew's separate issues through the prism of Frogmore Cottage, the king appears to care more about his disgraced brother than his conflicted son and foreign daughter-in-law. The mainstream of public opinion may be on the King's side now, but internationally, the move will decimate the monarchy just weeks before invitations are sent out for the coronation, Britain's largest state ceremony in 2023. We may see Prince Andrew, but we may not see the Sussexes."

The Mirror further reported that the expectation that the Sussexes would attend the coronation had now "changed dramatically."
