Prince Harry further revealed his feelings for his wife Meghan Markle yesterday, speaking with trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté at a 90-minute virtual book event to continue promoting his memoir, Spare, which was released on January 10 to great acclaim.

In an intimate conversation, Harry talked about how Meghan changed his life, telling People, "My wife saved me. I was stuck in this world and she was from a different world and she pulled me out of it. But none of the elements of my life now would have been possible without me seeing it myself."[3

Harry met Meghan in the summer of 2016. The romance progressed quickly; they announced their engagement in November 2017 and married on May 19, 2018; they are now parents to son Archie and daughter Lilibet, who moved from Harry's native England to Meghan's native California in 2020.

"My partner is an exceptional human being and I am eternally grateful for the wisdom and space she has given me," Harry said.

Like any couple, Harry and Meghan's story was not perfect, and Harry recalled a fight between the two in which Meghan threatened to leave Harry.

"I needed that," Harry said." With the thought of "losing her," he said, "I needed that push.

In "Spare," Harry recalled the fight and confessed that he "got worked up" and "snapped" after his conversation with Meghan "took an unexpected turn." He wrote that he was "disproportionately, sloppily angry" and spoke "harshly" to Meghan, and "everything in the room" stopped. After a moment of silence, Meghan calmly told Harry, "I absolutely cannot stand it when you talk to me like that."

Harry called Meghan's calm question about where he learned to talk that way "a lightbulb moment."

"Understanding how these things manifest themselves and how we are a product of our upbringing," Harry said.

Harry has referred to this event before, saying in 2021, "Meeting and being with Meghan made me realize that if I didn't get therapy and fix myself, I would lose this woman I could see myself spending the rest of my life with."
