Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's attendance at the coronation or not is a "lose-lose situation," says royal expert

The May 6 coronation of King Charles III is just two months away, but it remains to be seen if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will attend.

"Harry and Meghan have issued an interestingly worded statement regarding the coronation, and from the context of their email exchange, it appears that they are considering the logistics of attending the coronation and deciding in what capacity," royal family expert Christine Ross told "Marie Claire.

Over the weekend, a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said, "I can confirm that the Duke has recently received email correspondence from Her Majesty's office regarding the coronation."

Not answering a million-dollar question, the spokesperson added, "We are not sure." No immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will be made public by us at this time."

I believe that the Sussexes' next Netflix project should be a soap-style drama.

Anyway, for Ross, there is no right answer as to whether the Sussexes should show up at the historical event.

"It's a real lose-lose situation: if they attend, they risk being booed and unwelcome; if they don't, they will be perceived as cruel and selfish.

"It would take considerable planning and diplomacy to attend in the best way possible. Their best bet is to attend in the most quiet and private capacity, avoiding the procession down the aisle of Westminster Abbey, choosing a private entrance and a less visible seat."

Harry and Meghan have had a rocky relationship with the royal family since they left the U.K., and things got worse after the publication of Spare in January. Still, it is hard to imagine the Duke wanting to miss his father's coronation. It's business as usual: we'll find out sooner or later.
