Royal Family Reportedly Declined Invitation to Lilibet's Los Angeles Baptism

A lot is happening at Planet Royal right now.

A spokesman for the Sussex family has officially confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, Lilibet, 21 months, was baptized last week in California.

"We can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was baptized on Friday, March 3, by the Most Reverend John Taylor, Archbishop of Los Angeles," the spokesperson told People.

Pause here for a moment, and I hope everyone notices that this publicist referred to the girl as Princess Lilibet.

When Queen Elizabeth died and her grandfather became monarch, Archie and Lili were automatically entitled to use the titles "Prince" and "Princess," but whether King Charles would actively encourage them to use these titles, let them choose whether to use them when they turned 18 It was unclear whether King Charles would actively encourage the use of these titles, let people choose whether or not to use them when they turned 18, or ban the use of titles altogether.

To this day, the official order of succession refers to the children as "Lady Archie" and "Lady Lilibet," which may indicate that the Sussex family decided to call Lili "Princess" without consulting Charles. (I don't know enough about how this works to confirm whether or not this is true, just FYI.)

Anyway, a source also told People that Prince Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate had been invited to Lili's christening but apparently chose to miss the event.

This strikes me as a rather callous choice, considering the girl is not yet two years old and it would have been wonderful for her to know that she would be surrounded by her family at that milestone. That said, we don't even know how much notice the royal family had before the event, and even if it was only a few weeks, they couldn't just cancel all plans and fly off to California. It's nuance, people.

However, Prince Harry has previously said that he tried everything to repair his relationship with his family. 'It didn't have to go this far. We had conversations, we wrote letters, we wrote e-mails, everything," the prince told Tom Bradby in January

.

The prince hinted that the ball was in their court, but still invited them to his daughter's christening. The royal family invited the Sussexes to the coronation. Let us see if they can use these silver linings to reconcile.
