Romantic love is a myth and quite dangerous," says Emma Thompson, Queen of Romantic Comedy

Emma Thompson has appeared in numerous romantic comedies (many times, she is not often the romantic lead).

Who can forget her heartbreaking role in "Love Actually," but she also starred in "Good Luck to You" and "Leo Grande," and has appeared in "Sense and Sensibility," "Last Christmas," and "Bridget Jones' Baby."

However, while promoting his new film "What's Love Got to Do With It," Thompson admitted that he does not actually believe in romantic love.

"It's philosophically helpful and uplifting to be reminded that romantic love is a myth and quite dangerous," Thompson told Radio Times.

"We really have to take it with a pinch of salt. It is essential to think sensibly about love and the way it grows. Long-term love is very difficult and complicated! If anyone thinks that there will always be happy love in our lives, forget about it!"

.

Before you call Thompson a cynic, this woman has been married to her husband, Greg Wise, for 20 years and seems to be doing quite well. What she is saying is that one has to be realistic in order to stay with one person this long.

She illustrated this point in the first half of the interview when asked about who operates the remote control in the home.

"Neither of us has anything to do with the remote control. We both kept putting our hands on the carpet and saying, 'Where's the remote control? ' We're both totally pathetic."

So it's not quite "Love Actually," but maybe even better because it's real.
