Read MoreNetflix's survival competition show "Physical: 100" has become a can't-miss show for fans of series like "Survivor," "American Ninja Warrior," and the often-compared "Squid Game." The streaming giant's original series brings together 100 super-powered people, including national bodybuilders, bodybuilders, MMA fighters, special forces soldiers, and fitness influencers, to take on various challenges to see who has the "most perfect physique. "As of February 21 During the nine engrossing episodes available for streaming, fitness-obsessed men and women were eliminated until only one contestant was left holding 300 million won (approximately US$245,000).
While the series first gained traction for its squid-game-esque aesthetic and the celebrities among its stellar cast, "Physical: 100" (open in new tab) also went viral for the great sportsmanship and camaraderie among the cast. While the intense challenge pushed the athletes' bodies to their limits, their fellow contestants respected and cheered for each other's abilities. Even the totally non-sporty (and guilty) viewer is drawn into the good vibe, always in awe of all that the athletes' bodies can accomplish.
Fans are already clamoring for a second season of this new hit series, and luckily the production team seems to be on board. Read everything we know about the possibility of a "Physical: 100" Season 2.
In the final moments of the season one finale (open in new tab), there were hints that the show's creative team, led by producer Chang Ho-ki (open in new tab), has high hopes for the second season. When the last shot of the show showed the representation of the "most perfect physique" from season one in the form of a plaster bust of the torso of the winner, Woo Jin-young, the show's narrator made this enigmatic remark from above:
"There are many different physiques in the world. The quest for the perfect physique continues."
Judging by the ratings, it is a "not if, but when" situation for a Season 2 renewal. Season 1 was the first ever unscripted show to rank #1 on Netflix's non-English TV show rankings and has remained in the top 10 for the past month. These numbers surpass even the widely popular Korean dating show Single's Inferno, which is already in production for a third season (opens in new tab).
Once Season 2 is renewed, the Physical: 100 team will be able to get right to work on new competitions. To keep contestants and viewers happy, they have big decisions to make: whether to continue with the same challenges or try new games, plus casting and the actual construction of a lavish set; Netflix's other Korean unscripted series, Single's Inferno took a year to get to Season 2 (opens in new tab), "Physical: 100" Season 2 could appear in early 2024.
