Selena Gomez Quits TikTok Following Haley Bieber Drama
Selena Gomez is taking a break from TikTok.
This holding her own peace is both gratifying and sad for her, because she truly is the queen of this platform.
Unfortunately, it all seems to have been a bit much for this multi-hyphenate star: she recently got caught up in celebrity drama on this platform and announced on TikTok Live that she was taking a hiatus.
"I'm so happy, I'm so blessed, I have the best friends in the world, the best fans, I couldn't be happier. I couldn't be happier," she said (via Pop Base).
"I love who I am now. ...... I don't care. I love who I am now. And yeah, it's kind of silly, so I'm going to step away from social media for a bit. I'm 30 now and too old to be doing this! But I love you guys so much! And I will see you guys sooner or later, I just... I'm just going to ...... I'm just going to take a break from everything."
Gomez's Instagram is still active, but she wrote in her latest post that she is "taking a break from social."
For years, the star did not run her own Instagram account to protect her own mental health, relying instead on a team to run it for her. In recent months, she has once again been behind her own posts and captions, but apparently won't be doing so for some time now.
Gomez did not directly call out the situation, but it appears that she is taking a break from social media following the drama of Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Taylor Swift.
Here's a recap: Gomez recently admitted to accidentally over-laminating her eyebrows on TikTok Live.
Hours later, Kylie Jenner took to Instagram Stories to share a selfie with "This was an accident" written on her eyebrows and a screenshot of a FaceTime conversation between her and Hailey Bieber.
Gomez's fans immediately hypothesized that Jenner was openly teasing Gomez, but the Kylie Cosmetics founder debunked the theory and the founder of Rare Beauty backed her.
This was supposed to quash rumors of beef between the stars, but more (slightly unrelated) drama ensued.
A video of Haley Bieber apparently throwing shade at a Taylor Swift song resurfaced on TikTok, and Gomez quickly came to her friend's defense, writing, "So sorry, my best friend is one of the best in the game and will remain so."
As one can imagine, the comment sections of all of the above content, some supportive of Gomez and some not so supportive, had their thoughts on the whole situation. I would.
