Princess Diana called Prince Harry "the good King Harry," royal commentator claims.
If you have read even literally one paragraph of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, you know that in private he calls his brother Prince William "Willie" and Prince William calls Harry "Harold."
This has people wondering what nicknames the royals give each other behind closed doors. Frankly, there are some interesting tidbits of information.
"[Both] Princess Diana and Prince Charles called Willam Wombat when he was much younger. Princess Diana gave it to him," Rae told Marie Claire on behalf of Slingo (opens in new tab), commenting on the known nicknames of William and Harry.
"When he attended the Chelsea Flower Show in 2016, his wife, Princess Catherine, was also overheard calling him Babe.
"Diana called Harry GKH (Good King Harry) because she thought he was better suited to serve as the future king. It was also to make Harry seem special". Wait, what do you mean?
In any case, Rae apparently did not know the brothers' nicknames until "Spare" was published.
"These nicknames were revealed in 'Spares' and are entirely new. Willie is straightforward, but Harold is a mystery." I think William was just teasing Harry a bit.
Obviously, Rae has never interacted with the Harry Styles superfans who call him Harold.
I am also sort of obsessed with the wealth of nicknames that Queen Elizabeth II was bestowed with throughout her life.
"Prince Philip called the Queen Cabbage, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Gungans," says Rae.
"There was a time when young Prince William was called Gary because his grandmother was difficult to pronounce."
"The Queen's pet name was Lilibet, which Prince Philip always used. Of course, Harry and Meghan's daughter was named Lilibet in honor of the Queen. Lilibet came about because the future queen could not pronounce her own name, Elizabeth."[21
Very good.
