"You" Season 4 spoilers, Part 1: Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), or Jonathan Moore, begins his new life as a literature professor in London and is immediately confronted with a dead body. This time, the hunter becomes the hunted, and Joe awakens from a night of debauchery to find the corpse of his new nemesis, Malcolm, lying on the kitchen table. Surprisingly, Joe is not the killer, but is being blackmailed by someone who wants to kill all of London's wealthy socialites (opens in new tab). (In Season 4, that premise is used to turn the show into a hedonistic whodunit, with Joe taking on the fucking aristocrats (seriously, everyone except Phoebe and Kate sucks) and finding out who the killer is, while at the same time trying to keep more of them from dying, hopefully. There is plenty of romance in this ridiculous premise, as Joe falls in love with Malcolm's ex-girlfriend, Kate. Unfortunately, fans who jumped in this season ended up binge-reading in half the time because the streamer split this season into two parts.

There are a lot of questions to be answered, so read on to find out when the second half of the season will air and how big of a cliffhanger the five-episode drop ended up being. (Also, [spoilers] will be back.)

Netflix won't keep us waiting long for the next step in Joe's quest to defeat Eat the Rich Killer. The second half of Season 4, consisting of five more episodes, will be released exactly one month later, on March 9. [This two-part structure has been used before by the streamer's popular franchises, including "Stranger Things" and "Ozark," and as You creator Sera Gamble wrote in September (opens in new tab), this gives us "time to process... . and maybe time to make some friendly wagers on where it will all go."

Joe's attempts to find Eat the Rich killer are not looking good by the end of part one: by the final episode of the five-part series, three members of the wealthy group are dead, and Joe has to get substantial evidence to figure out who was blackmailing him He must. By the time he determines Roald (Ben Wiggins) to be the most likely murderer, at a country weekend where all the suspects gather, Roald has turned most of the group's emotions (except Kate and Phoebe) against Joe. The aristocrats literally hunt him down in the woods surrounding the mansion after Joe makes the first move, but the chase comes to a surprising end when Rhys Montrose (Ed Spillers) shows up.

After he chains Joe and Roald in the manor's dungeon, Reese reveals in a villainous monologue that he is the killer and Joe's stalker. He intervenes, having been pulling the strings all along, when it becomes clear that Joe is about to "kill himself." The author then orders Joe to kill Roald, blames him for the entire Eat the Rich murder case, and makes him give a false confession in a forged suicide note. Reese says that Roald's death is in Joe's best interest because it will get rid of his "love interest," but Joe does not want to kill an innocent man. When Reese sees Joe trying to escape, he sets the room on fire and leaves.

Joe breaks the chains between himself and Roald, and Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) rescues him out through the basement door. When everyone returns to London, Kate tries to ask Joe out on a date, but he turns her down because he knows of Reese's further plans. The episode ends with Joe watching Rhys on television as the writer announces his candidacy for mayor of London and Joe tells him of his intention to expose Rhys.

Joe has previously hit it off with his ex-wife, Love, and now the serial stalker may have to confront his nemesis who is smarter than he is. Rhys is widely popular in London, has the power of a political movement behind him, and has expert sneaking skills, having managed to escape the fire without being found by Kate or anyone else. Now that he is determined to keep threatening Joe, the new mayoral candidate is likely to expand his murderous targets beyond just Kate and Phoebe's crew.

Speaking of Kate, she and Joe are unlikely to be apart for long. Speaking of Kate and Joe, they are not likely to be apart for long. They are close neighbors, and Joe will need to keep his place as a member of the clique (someone needs to teach Reese a bad lesson). Joe's ability to stay away from the woman he cares about is historically paper thin, even though he is determined to focus on defeating Reese.

Lady Phoebe is another standout character in the new season, along with her unnervingly attractive boyfriend Adam.

Netflix ended Part 1 with a trailer for the next episode, narrated by a determined Joe, who has put his stalker hat back on to keep an eye on Reese. The video shows flashes of several scenes, including a confrontation between Joe and Reese, an emaciated Phoebe, a running Nadia, and Joe pulling a knife out of his waist bag. It also reveals a surprisingly familiar face: Love, sitting in a chair in what looks like a makeshift library in Joe's cage.

Before everyone's heads start exploding with theories, Love is really dead. Gamble confirmed it in multiple interviews in October 2021, telling Entertainment Weekly (opens in new tab) that she and Pedretti knew early on that Love would die. We're trained to do that, and people have asked me, 'Is she really dead?' I said, 'Her body is on camera. Her body is on camera. She's lying there for the whole scene, and then he sets her on fire." It's like, 'She's dead.'" [Just as Guinevere Beck (open in new tab) appeared in ghost form in Season 2 to remind Joe of his abilities, Love is likely to appear as a hallucination. Love will probably appear in a similar context, reminding Joe that he is not as selfless as he tries to be. Either way, it would be great to have Pedretti back, and I hope he will be back in the future.
