Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be "the first to hear" of Princess Eugenie's pregnancy, experts say
One of the happiest pieces of news in the royal family recently is that Princess Eugenie is expecting her second child, and according to the Mirror, even though relations between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the rest of the royal family are still very strained, the couple and Harry's cousin The bond with Eugenie, the royal family's cousin, remains strong, and royal expert Ingrid Sward told the paper that the Sussex family should have been the first to hear the good news.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex must have been the first to hear the news of Eugenie's pregnancy," said Sward, editor in chief of Majesty magazine.
"Meghan and Harry are good friends with Eugenie, not only having spent time with her in California, but also having vacationed together before Harry's marriage. If the Sussexes come to the coronation in May, they will have more incentive to meet Eugenie.
When Eugenie was first pregnant with her son August, born in February 2021, Princess Meghan was also pregnant with Lilibet, born in June of that year, and the two bonded over their shared experience.
Sward told the Mirror that Eugenie's "upbeat" announcement will be a welcome distraction for the royal family as the fallout from Harry's memoir, Spare, released earlier this month, continues.
"Royal babies have always provided positive news, especially when everything around us is so troubled," she says.
The Buckingham Palace side said the royal family is "delighted" and that brother August is "very" looking forward to becoming a big brother. (Eugenie shares two children with husband Jack Brooksbank.) August is "almost two years old and mature enough to understand what's going on and be excited," Sward said. 'He'll probably be as fun and hands-on as little boys his age, becoming more independent from his mother and father on a daily basis.' So having a new playmate will be something to look forward to."
The new baby will be the 13th in the line of succession to the throne and the first great-grandson born after the death of His late Majesty the King.
Harry has long been very close to Eugenie and, to our knowledge, she is the only Royal to have visited him and Meghan in California since she left as a Royal family member of society three years ago. She is also the only member of the royal family to have made a cameo appearance in Netflix's documentary on Harry and Meghan, which debuted last month.
