Prince Harry may "reconcile in some way" with royal family ahead of coronation, experts say
Tensions between Prince Harry (and Meghan Markle) and the rest of the royal family may never have been higher than they are now, but according to Us Weekly, the royal family may be hoping to "temporarily mend fences" for King Charles' coronation, which is coming in three months
"There may be some kind of a
"I suspect that efforts are being made to reconcile in some way ...... I think it's because they don't want [family tensions] to spoil what takes place on that very important day," royal family expert Jonathan Sacerdoti tells the magazine. Whether or not that is possible and whether or not it will last are two different things. Even if they could reconcile in some way, it might be temporary. As a family, and more broadly, as a country and an organization, I think it is very difficult to forgive what has happened."
If you're asking what happened, unless you've been living under a rock, you already know: first, three years ago this month (!) ), Harry and Meghan's departure from the active members of the Royal Family, followed by a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and, closer to the present, Netflix's six-part documentary of the same name, Harry's explosive memoir, Spare, and all those numerous interviews to promote them. Harry's statements about not only Charles, but also his stepmother Camilla, stepsister Kate, and especially his brother Prince William, do not bode well for a lasting reconciliation, Sacerdoti says.
"I think Harry and Meghan have said they expect an apology, but I don't think many people would agree to an apology in that fashion," he says. The King, the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and all the other characters in "Spare" have been severely criticized by that book. They are criticized extensively by Harry, and mean-spiritedly in parts.
To date, the royal family has remained completely silent about Harry's accusations in the book.
"But above all, perhaps they [the royal family] just want to keep quiet, not only emotionally and personally, but also because they don't want to provoke more of this kind of thing, which is damaging for the state, since this is effectively an attack on part of the British constitution," Sacerdoti Sacerdoti says.
Temporary or not, the possibility of a cease-fire is only three months away: the coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6, coincidentally the same day as Harry and Meghan's son Archie's fourth birthday.
"Presumably, the Prince and Princess of Wales will attend, as will their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis," Sacerdoti says. 'And Harry and Princess Meghan may also attend.'
