Prince Harry says Meghan Markle mistook Prince Andreu for an aide to the Queen at their first meeting.
Part of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, has been leaked: when Meghan Markle first met the Queen, she apparently mistook the late Majesty's son, Prince Andrew, for her assistant. (Harry wrote in the book, released Tuesday, "After a while, Meg asked me something about the Queen's assistant. At first I didn't know who Meghan was talking about, but she continued. It was that guy who walked her to the door."
According to Us Weekly, Harry immediately informed Meghan that "that man with the purse" was Andrew, the Queen's second son and a high-ranking member of the royal family (this was over six years ago, in October 2016).
"She definitely did not Google us," Harry wrote.
At this meeting, Harry and Meghan had lunch at the Royal Lodge in Windsor with the Queen, Andrew, Andrew's ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, their daughter Princess Eugenie and her then-boyfriend Jack Brooksbank.
"It was all great fun," Harry wrote, noting that his then-girlfriend took an almost perfect deep bow when she first met the late King.
Meghan revealed in the couple's documentary "Harry & Meghan" that she did not know she would meet the Queen until she arrived in Windsor.
"There was no big moment like, 'Now I'm going to meet my grandmother,'" Meghan said. I remember in the car [Harry] said, 'You know how to bow. We're having the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. [My first bow] was like that. I bowed as if I was bowing to the floor."
After Meghan apparently nailed the bow, the couple chatted with the Queen, discussing the late Her Majesty's attendance at church that morning and her hometown of Toronto, where Meghan was filming "Suits."
The Queen finished lunch about 20 minutes later and Andrew escorted her out.
"After the queen drove away, everyone crowded into the room," Harry wrote.
"The whole atmosphere changed," Harry wrote.
