Princess Meghan & Harry," including Princess Diana's "Panorama" interview, is "sharply hurtful" to Prince William, says royal expert.
Netflix's "Harry & Meghan Volume 1" featured Prince Harry's "Panorama" interview with his mother, Princess Diana, and included clips of the controversial conversation in the documentary.
This was after Prince William strongly requested that the 1995 interview never be aired again. It is my firm opinion that there is no justification for this 'Panorama' program and that it should never be aired again," Prince William said last year. [The program] effectively established a false narrative that has been commercialized by the BBC and others for over a quarter of a century.
"This entrenched narrative now needs to be addressed by the BBC and those who write or attempt to write about these events."
Harry & Meghan were able to publish excerpts from "Panorama" without the BBC's permission under a "fair dealing" agreement.
Royal family expert Jenny Bond believes the decision was aimed specifically at the Prince of Wales.
"I think Harry and Meghan's decision to publish Princess Diana's 'Panorama' interview is pointedly hurtful," Bond said OK!
"How dare he go against his brother's clear wishes regarding his mother. [He is not respecting William's wishes. I don't believe he called his brother and said, 'By the way, I'm going to use that clip.
"It is blatantly, openly, and pointedly hurtful."
It is worth noting that Prince Harry had nothing to do with the editing of the Netflix documentary, and it is likely that he was not the one who decided to include clips from "Panorama". It also feels like it is his right to talk about such a painful episode involving his mother. Nevertheless, Bond is correct that Harry would have known about the documentary before it aired, but William was likely not warned about the recording in advance.
While various claims about the royal family have been flying around on both sides of the Atlantic recently, Bond believes it is up to the Sussex family to set the record straight.
"We have sources from the palace who deny any harm was done to Harry and Meghan," she continued.
"We cannot determine who is telling the truth.
"So I think the onus is on Harry and Meghan, who are making the allegations, to substantiate them and stop throwing general slurs against the family.
"It's getting really unpleasant and dirty. Harry talked about it being a "dirty game" and this is dirty."
"We've seen a lot of the Royal Family's dirty laundry being aired in public, and I think it's a very bad thing.
