British Royal Family Announces That Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Documentary Show Is Not Available for Comment - Despite the Disclaimer at the Beginning of the Program
Harry & Meghan-Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opened the newly released six-part documentary on Netflix with a title card that read, "Members of the Royal Family have declined to comment on the content within the series."
However, according to Palace officials, members of the royal family were not asked to comment on the docuseries at all.
The source told People that "neither members of the royal family, nor Buckingham Palace, nor Prince William's office at Kensington Palace, were asked to comment on the content of the series"-perhaps, as Marie Claire reported in the past, on Thursday when the first The last three parts of the series will be released this coming Thursday, December 15, before the first three parts are released (like the rest of us) because no one in the royal family (like the rest of us) knew what was in the series. People continues, "The Palace would not comment on the episodes either."
The source added, "Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace received an email claiming to be a third-party production company through the email address of an unknown organization. They contacted Archewell (Harry and Meghan's company) and Netflix to verify the source, but received no response." The source continued, "The email did not mention the series as a whole."
Netflix tells the outlet, however, that "Prince Charles and Prince William's communications office were contacted in advance and given the right to reply to claims in the series."
In addition to the title card stating that "Members of the Royal Family declined to comment on the content within the series," it also reiterated that all interviews were to be completed by August 2022, the month before Queen Elizabeth's death on September 8.
Page Six reported that Prince Charles intends to stay out of the drama surrounding Harry and Meghan, and royal expert Tom Bower told the magazine that the family is "shocked by it all" and that "the question is just - and this is really a story up in the air - is whether they interview to refute the claims, or do we strip them (Harry and Meghan) of their titles?"
Bower continues. 'The problem is that Prince Charles doesn't like confrontation. Someone who had dinner with him earlier this week said he wants no part of this. But I don't think it's possible for him to stay out of this issue."
