Princess Beatrice Likely to Play Important New Role in King Charles III's Monarchy
Princess Beatrice, niece of King Charles III and daughter of Prince Andrew and Princess Sarah Ferguson, will play an important role in her uncle's monarchy, PEOPLE reported.
Beatrice is set to become one of Prince Charles' four advisors of state, who will be able to represent the king at meetings of the Privy Council, sign routine documents, and receive the credentials of the new ambassador to the UK.
The Telegraph reports that Beatrice, who has been married to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi since 2020 and is the mother of daughter Siena, who will turn one on September 18, will likely become a counselor of state under the 1937 Regency Act. This law provides that the spouse of the monarch (Camilla in the case of Prince Charles) and the next four adults in the line of succession, who are at least 21 years old, may perform duties on behalf of the monarch. Beatrice, currently ninth in the line of succession, is the fourth adult over the age of 21, following her cousins Prince William and Prince Harry, and her father, Prince Andrew. (William's children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and Harry's children, Archie and Lilibet, are all under age 9.)
"There are, however, some 'core constitutional functions' that cannot be delegated to the Counsellor of State. These include matters relating to the Commonwealth, the dissolution of Parliament (unless explicitly directed by the King), the creation of a peerage, and the appointment of a new Prime Minister," PEOPLE reported.
During Queen Elizabeth's reign, her husband Prince Philip (until his death in April 2021), Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrew served as advisors of state. Recent events have pressured the queen to replace Harry and Andrew with other current royals, but the queen has not changed her lineup.
Beatrice, in addition to being a British princess, is now most likely a state advisor due to her marriage to Mappelli Mozzi. Her husband Edo shared a personal tribute to Her Majesty the Queen on Instagram, writing, "These 24 hours are incredibly hard to handle. She was an incredible woman and left an extraordinary mark on the entire world. She was the cornerstone on which modern Britain was built."
She also said, "She was a great inspiration to me, and I am so proud to have been a part of her life.
