Princess Diana saw a more different future for Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship.
As August 31, the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's untimely death approaches, many royal followers are thinking about her this month. With the ongoing feud between Prince William and Prince Harry, many wonder how Princess Diana feels about this.
There is no doubt that Princess Diana would have been devastated. According to Diana's biographer, Andrew Morton (according to the Daily Express), Diana saw Harry as William's wingman in his lonely job as future king.
According to The Daily Beast, Morton recalled how close the brothers once were, even describing them as "inseparable."
"Like any mother, Princess Diana would have worried about her children's relationship breaking down," Morton said.
"Because Harry's job is lonely and he can't trust many people around him. She saw Harry as a support to her brother.
According to royal expert Katie Nichol, author of William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls, William and Harry's siblings are "on the other side of the palace walls," according to Katie Nichol, author of William and Harry, the sibling rift began at Christmas 2018 around that time, when Harry told William that he wasn't doing enough to add Meghan to the royal family. A source told Nicole, "Harry felt that William was not rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so." The two had a falling out, which was only resolved when his father, Prince Charles, intervened and asked William to make an effort. Nicole's source said, "That's when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes over for Christmas."
According to The Daily Express, in the TLC documentary "Kate v. Meghan: Princesses at War," which aired a few months later, Nicole said that Harry and Meghan first started dating Nicole claims that when Harry and Meghan first started dating, the feud may have actually started much earlier. According to Nicole, William was "quite concerned about the rapid progression of the relationship," and "was very close to Harry and probably said to Harry, 'This seems to be going fast. Are you sure about this?'
Spoiler alert - this did not go over well with Harry.
"I think I was trying to give advice as a well-meaning brother, but I think I offended Harry," Nicole says. 'Harry is very protective of Meghan. He took it as criticism. He interpreted it as my brother not supporting this marriage, this marriage, and I don't think things have gone well since then"
.
As for Morton, he does not see much chance of reconciliation between the brothers.
"I highly doubt they will reconcile," he told The Daily Beast. 'There is a lot of wishful thinking about this. The closest parallel is George VI and Edward VIII. George VI adored his brother as Harry adored William. They were inseparable. However, George VI abdicated and moved abroad. William and Harry are in a similar situation."
Morton points to June's Platinum Jubilee, where the brothers did not interact at all.
"As we saw at the Jubilee, their time in London was brief to say the least, and there was no dinner or lunch or anything like that to keep the children together," Morton says. The longer Harry and Meghan stayed in the U.S., the more comfortable they became." [If Princess Diana had lived, would the rift have been this deep?
