London-based actor Richardson is a prolific theater, film, and television actor, best known for his appearances on the FX series Nip/Tuck and the fourth season of Showtime's The Tudors. She has also appeared in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "Vampire Academy," "Red Sparrow," and the live-action film "101 Doggies" (as Anita Darling).

John Dee, the illegitimate son of Burgess and Ethel, steals a ruby with the power of the Dream and uses it to make his dreams come true. The magic stone distorts Dee's psyche and he is confined to an asylum for most of his life.

Thewlis is best known for his role as Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series. He has also appeared in the third season of FX's "Fargo," the DC movie "Wonder Woman," the Stephen Hawking film "The Theory of Everything," and the Netflix animated series "Big Mouth" (opens in new tab) and "Human Lithia" ( (opens in new tab) (he played Shame Wizard in both films).

Johanna is a member of a historical exorcist family (including exorcist and occult superhero John Constantine, star of DC Comics' "Hellblazer" series). She crosses paths with Dream shortly after his release, just as her ancestors met him in the past.

Coleman previously played Clara Oswald, companion to the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) in Doctor Who, and was part of the iconic science fiction franchise. She also played Queen Victoria in the British period drama "Victoria" and Marie-Andrée Leclerc in the Netflix miniseries "The Serpent." Twenty-one-year-old Rose is an orphan who just wants to get a job and find the brother she lost when her parents split up. Unfortunately, she also has the power to break down the barrier between the Dreaming and the waking world, which Dream's enemies are trying to use against him.

Ghanaian actor Achampong was a self-supporting temporary teacher in between acting jobs before his big break on the award-winning British sketch comedy show Famalam; he also appeared in the Netflix sci-fi show The One (opens in new tab).

If the personification of death isn't enough, "The Sandman" also features a literal devil. Lucifer, played by Gwendoline Christie, was once the wisest and most powerful angel in heaven, but rebelled against God and became the ruler of hell. (Fun fact: Neil Gaiman's version of Lucifer had his own spin-off comic book series, which became the TV series Lucifer.)

The character was also the subject of a book called "The Devil's Gate."

Christie is best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in "Game of Thrones" and as Captain Phasma, a First Order stormtrooper in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." He also appeared as Commander Lime in the final Hunger Games film, Mockingjay - Part 2.

After Matthew dies as a human in The Dreaming, he transforms into a crow and works as Dream's assistant and companion. He also asks some questions that the audience might have as they adjust to their new world.

Oswalt is a stand-up comedian and prolific voice actor who played Remy in the Disney film Ratatouille, was the narrator on ABC's The Goldbergs, and did several voices on Bojack Horseman. His live-action roles include "Veep," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "A.P. Bio," the 2019 reboot of "Veronica Mars," and "Agents of SHIELD" (True Crime fans may recognize Oswalt from the HBO documentary "I'll Be Gone in the Dark").

Inspired by the biblical brothers of the same name, Cain and Abel are residents of the Dreaming, repeating the deed on the earth where Cain killed Abel. They are also loyal subjects of the Dreaming and keep gargoyles as pets.

Bhaskar is a prolific actor and has a recurring role in the British crime series Unforgotten. He also appeared briefly in Neil Gaiman's prime video series Good Omens, and was in the Beatles-inspired film Yesterday.

Chaudhry co-produced and starred in the British mockumentary series People Just Do Nothing. She also appeared in Black Mirror's choice adventure Bandersnatch and the superhero sequel Wonder Woman 1984.
