Read MoreThe season two finale of NBC's crime drama Good Girls (opens in new tab) had viewers on the edge of their seats, clutching their pearls, and chugging Olivia Pope-grade wine all at once. In the last few episodes of the season, Beth, Annie, and Ruby's half-baked and extremely illegal money-making scheme came back to haunt them in a big way. Beth, the ringleader, had lost the very thing she was trying to protect by her troubled relationship with her love interest/dealer/thorn in the side Rio, and Agent Turner was on her tail and about to lock her up in jail for her crimes. In the season climax, Beth's decision to eliminate Rio for good and put the women in the driver's seat of their own business completely changed the trajectory of the show.
The third season of Good Girls (opens in new tab) is scheduled to return to NBC on February 16, 2020. More good news is that it will consist of 16 episodes, more than the 13 and 10 episodes of seasons 2 and 1, respectively. It will likely be available on Netflix at some point, but it is not at all clear when that will be.
The story of three Michigan mother-turned-criminal is likely to get more complicated. Here is what we know about the upcoming season.
After the events of the previous season, the mothers are not necessarily on the same page. Ruby, whose relationship with her husband Stan has been jeopardized, is not keen on continuing her work. Beth's sister Annie is also disillusioned by the long con when she learns that her new boyfriend, Noah, is actually an FBI agent who is out to get her; with two of the three unsure of the benefits of a life of crime, it will be very difficult for Beth to convince her team that her next venture will be worthwhile in the long run.
It is also doubtful that Beth's new associates in Season 3 will be able to change their minds. Her new friend Rhea, played by Orange is the New Black's Jackie Cruz, is none other than Rio's Baby Mama. (Creator Jenna Banz said in an interview with TV Line, "When the other girls learn about Rhea's past, they question Beth's motives for befriending her."
TVLine (opens in new tab) also reports that Beth feels the need to start a budding friendship with a single mother because it is hard to ignore the guilt of what happened to Rio. Beth does not share details about who she is, and Annie and Ruby question the real reason behind their new friendship.
As the saying goes, "three heads are better than one," and the creators of "Good Girls" decided that adding a fourth accomplice would be great for the story; according to TVLine (opens in new tab), Beth, Annie, and Ruby are the latest money-laundering venture to They will be seeking the skills of a graphic designer, and Shirin Yee of "House" fame will take on the role of helping the girls make money.
However, Bunz warns that this new character may be more of a nuisance than a help to the trio. She describes this new character as a suburban mother with a questionable background and no interest in being a "good" girl.
Gokuri.
Excuse me for yelling.
*heavy screaming*
Okay, I'm back.
He may not have been perfect or good or decent, but by golly, Rio was ours. And in the final episode of the second season, Beth pulled a gun on him, put several deadly bullets in his body, and took him out. Or she did.
Later in that same scene, Agent Turner was seen making a deal with Rio, who was believed to be barely alive. If Rio makes it out alive, he will no doubt work with the FBI to bring Beth down. Would you want to spend sexy time with someone who tried to kill you? I don't think so, unless you're into that sort of thing."
I would be elated to see Rio on screen again, even if he ended up siding with the enemy. Do the right thing, Good Girls.
Mary Pat has caused numerous problems for the girl gang over the past two seasons. This housewife and former member of the Secret Shoppers blackmailed the girls into paying her thousands of dollars a month in exchange for keeping quiet about their criminal involvement and activities. Toward the end of the second season, she works closely with Agent Turner to try to clear herself of her own felonies, such as burying her husband's body in the backyard after his untimely death and repeatedly running over and killing a rogue boomer in order to continue receiving her husband's disability benefits.
But Mary Pat's reign of terror is coming to an end. Allison Tolman, who plays the ill-fated housewife, is currently starring in the new ABC series Emergence (open in new tab). The hour-long thriller tells the story of a newly divorced mother (Tolman) and the enigmatic girl she takes in in a sleepy New York town; Emergence premiered earlier this month, so if the ABC drama does well, Tolman won't have much time to star in Good Girls I'm sure she won't have much time for "Good Girls. Best wishes, Mary Pat. [The first season premiered in February 2018 and the second in March 2019. And Team Rio, another reason to be excited: season 3 of Good Girls just added 3 episodes (open in new tab) to the schedule, which means 16 episodes total.
If you need a refresher on how Beth, Annie, and Ruby got to where they are, head over to Netflix (opens in new tab) and don't be shy about binge-watching the first two seasons. Happy streaming
