Last August, Katie Holmes was photographed hailing a cab in New York City wearing a Khaite cashmere bra and matching cardigan. The ensemble sold out within an hour after photos of the look (opens in new tab) (ethereal, chic, and sexy) hit the Internet. In an interview with InStyle magazine, which chose Holmes as its April cover star, Holmes explained how the moment came about. [I wasn't feeling very sexy, to be honest. I looked at it and said, 'That's sexy. I can do that!' And I thought, 'I can do that. I thought, 'I could sit by the fire in the cabin and wear [matching] sweaters over it. That's how my brain works. But I wouldn't be at the cabin, I wouldn't be going to the cabin. But I knew I could pull it off. Because I had noticed that other people were wearing blazers and bras. I didn't want to get in trouble with teenagers! We were shopping at school and I was just about to hail a cab on 6th Avenue. I looked much more glamorous than I actually was"

The actress also had a rare candid moment when she spoke to "InStyle" about her personal life in New York with her 14-year-old daughter Suri; the two have lived in New York since 2006, when Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise.

"She came on very strong. She picks an activity and works her butt off until she gets really good at it," Holmes told the magazine. 'She's very focused and hardworking. She's very focused and hardworking."
