Tom Hanks Shares Update on Coronavirus Symptoms with Rita Wilson

Happy update to start the day: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (opens in new tab) have been released from a hospital in Queensland, Australia, after testing positive for coronavirus, the BBC reported (opens in new tab). 'Good news: good news: I've been self-isolating for a week after testing positive, but my symptoms are much the same. No fever, but I don't feel well. I fold laundry, do dishes, and take naps on the couch," Hanks wrote. "Bad news: my wife @ritawilson has won 6 in a row at Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points."

Hanks also responded to the small backlash he sparked among Australians by posting a photo of a piece of toast with a generous smear of Vegemite (according to Australians, a thin layer is enough). He said, "I've learned not to spread the Vegemite on so thick."

And with coronavirus humor: "I traveled here with my once beloved typewriter," Hanks wrote. Note the brand of typewriter I once used to love: corona.

If you are self-isolating and looking for further occupation, check out this lovely profile of Hanks in the New York Times last November (opens in new tab). And he tells us exactly why he loves typewriters so much: "It's a brilliant combination of art and engineering. It's a brilliant combination of art and engineering. But it's art, engineering, and purpose," he told writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner. Every machine is as unique as a fingerprint. So every time you type something on a typewriter, it becomes a unique work of art."

"The machine is a unique work of art.
