Meghan Markle returns to the screen to narrate Disney documentary "Elephant"

This is exciting! As People first reported (opens in new tab), former Suits actor and former senior royal Meghan Markle has made her official debut as a Disney voice actress: Disney Nature tweeted out a trailer for the documentary "Elephant". Here's the basic synopsis:

"Elephant" follows the herd of African elephants, Shani and her spirited son Jomo, on an epic journey across hundreds of miles of the vast Kalahari Desert. Guided by the great patriarch Gaia, the family faces harsh heat, dwindling resources, and persistent predators as they follow in the footsteps of their ancestors to a lush paradise."

And I'm already crying.

In January, it was reported that Princess Meghan had signed a contract with Disney to do voiceover work in exchange for charitable donations to her chosen cause; in March, it was reported that Meghan could return to acting (open with a new tab) as early as the fall and was seeking an agent was also reported, so this could be the start of quite a lot of work for the former senior royal.

She and her husband, Prince Harry, have a history (open in new tab) of helping not only elephants, but other native and endangered animals in Africa, and their choice has sparked controversy among fans and royals alike, which is quite consistent with Princess Meghan's emphasis on causes that are important to her It seems to be quite consistent with the emphasis she places on it. Apparently, this is also a nod to Earth Month (opens in new tab). Seriously, her narration is going to garner a lot of views for this film.

Here's the trailer (although this is just a teaser and you don't actually hear her voice):

When Princess Meghan and Harry attended the Lion King premiere (opens in new tab) in London, they pitched such a film to director Jon Favreau ( open in new tab), I heard Harry say:

"Next time you need someone to narrate, we'll do it," Harry sounds like he's saying.

Princess Meghan says: "That's the real reason we're here.

Harry says. 'Just not for Scar. That's a no for Scar."

Harry also seems to have made a pitch to Bob Iger, former CEO of Disney:

So, as expected, Disney has absolutely jumped at the chance. Can't wait to see it.
