Prince Albert refutes speculation that he gave Prince Charles a COVID-19

When Clarence House announced that Prince Charles had tested positive for COVID-19 (open in new tab), it clarified that it was not known when or from whom he was infected.

"Due to his many public engagements in recent weeks, it is impossible to confirm from whom the Crown Prince contracted the virus," the official statement read.

As of March 12, Prince Charles was still attending public functions, but because he and Prince Albert of Monaco, who recently tested positive for COVID-19, were guests at a WaterAid event in London on March 10, Prince Charles was first infected with the disease there, some suspect.

However, in an interview with a French radio station, Prince Albert refuted speculation that he had infected Prince Charles with the virus, pointing out that they were not sitting near each other. [opens in new tab] According to the Huffington Post (opens in new tab), "We greeted each other from a distance, each on the other side of the table. I never held his hand." (Even before the March 10 meeting, Prince Charles had adopted the Namaste bow as a greeting (opens in new tab).)

"I was already on the other side of the table and we exchanged greetings from a distance ... . So I don't think I can be accused of contaminating him," Albert continued.

"But there were a lot of people around that table as well as in the atrium of that convention center."

Last week, Albert told People that he was "feeling fine" (open in new tab) after testing positive for the new coronavirus.

"My symptoms are flu-like, but they feel pretty mild. 'I have a slight fever, not too bad. A little cough. I had a runny nose for the first few days and that was the first sign. Feels a little stuffy nose, but that's it."

And in a radio interview this week, he provided an update on his health: "I still have a little cough, but no more fever. I can see the end of the tunnel," he said.

Prince Charles, too, is fortunately suffering from only mild symptoms. A source recently told Town & Country (opens in new tab) that the Prince is "fine" despite his diagnosis. And today, Clarence House conveyed a message of thanks (opens in new tab) to the Crown Prince for all the favors he has received this week.

"Thank you for the many "Get Well Soon" messages to His Highness. Her Highness is very touched by your warm words.
