Prince Harry likely to receive diplomatic status in the U.S.

There has been a lot of Sussex news this month! Last week, news broke that Prince Harry and Princess Meghan Markle had moved from their temporary home on Vancouver Island, Canada, to Meghan's hometown of Los Angeles before their last day (hint: it's today) as senior members of the royal family (opens in new tab). Meghan is, of course, an American, but Harry needs some kind of visa to stay in the U.S. for an extended period of time. And according to the Telegraph, diplomatic status (opens in new tab) is likely to be granted to resolve that issue.

Expert Matteo Carrera, an immigration law scholar at Cardozo Law School in New York, told the paper that Harry will probably get an A1 visa for "diplomats and government officials" because he is a fairly major royal. From there, Carrera said, "you can adjust your status to a green card." After three years on the green card, Harry could apply for full U.S. citizenship.

On Monday, Meghan and Harry shared the last ever post on their Instagram account @sussexroyal (opens in new tab) indicating their impending departure from the senior royal family. The caption read, "The most important thing right now is the health and well-being of people around the world and finding solutions to the many problems that have emerged as a result of this pandemic."

"As we all find our roles to play in this global shift and change of habits, we are focused on this new chapter and how best to contribute," Sussex said. 'You may not see us here, but the work continues.'
