One World: "Together at Home" Concert: Cast and details

If you follow celebrity news, watch late-night shows, or like concerts, you may have heard of One World: Together at Home, a virtual benefit concert to be held live on April 18, 2020 at 8 p.m. EST, It is a special global initiative to support the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19), which is currently endemic around the world. It was presented by Global Citizen and the World Health Organization in collaboration with Lady Gaga and has already raised $35 million. What does it all mean, and more importantly, is it worth seeing?

According to CNN (opens in new tab), Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert will co-host. The schedule includes: Alicia Keys, Amy Poehler, Awkwafina, Camila Cabello, Celine Dion, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, LL Cool J, Lupita Nyongo, Matthew McConaughey, Oprah Winfrey, Pharrell Williams, Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Usher, Victoria Beckham, Alanis Morissette, Andrea Bocelli, Billy Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), Verna Boy, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Elton John, J. Balvin, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban. Rizzo, Paul McCartney, Kerry Washington, Run Run, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and more (!). . The Muppets from Sesame Street will also participate.

Lady Gaga "interrupted" the Colbert monologue to announce the concert and give all the details:

According to Hugh Evans, founder and CEO of Global Citizen (opens in new tab), "To honor and support the heroic efforts of community health care workers, One World: Together At Home aims to be a source of unity and encouragement in the global struggle to end COVID-19." He added, "Through music, entertainment, and impact, this global live cast will celebrate those who are willing to risk their own health to protect the health of all."

We have already seen #TogetheratHome, a series of virtual, non-contact concerts that included Chris Martin and John Legend. This is sort of a larger scale version of that. The concert will promote action for WHO's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund and will also highlight the heroic stories of health care workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 response. Proceeds will be donated to charities that equip workers with protective clothing and provide food and shelter to those in need right now.

ABC, NBC, ViacomCBS, iHeartMedia, Bell Media, Canadian platforms, and BBC One in the UK will air the special, which will be available on Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. It will be available for streaming. So basically, if you have a cell phone or a TV, you can probably find a way to watch it. Now, to state the obvious here, this is not an IRL concert due to social distance issues. The stars will perform and present from their homes (or studios, I imagine). And we will be a virtual audience jamming at home.

This is not a typical fundraiser. Money has already been raised, and (according to Lady Gaga) the hosts will tell viewers to put away their wallets, so to speak, and will share information on how to donate to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and support local, national, and international communities. There are already ways to take action via Global Citizen, such as signing a pledge or spreading the word (open in new tab). Honestly, this is going to be a great moment of solidarity, and I'm totally paying attention.
