Meghan Markle's Rare "Good Morning America" Interview Goes On Air for the First Time

Meghan Markle made her first interview appearance on Good Morning America Monday morning after publicly announcing that she and Harry were cutting ties with the four major British tabloids (opens in new tab).

The clip was filmed last summer before the premiere of Disney+'s Disneynature's Elephant documentary, which Markle narrated. (Opens in new tab) Markle originally heard about the project when she and Harry traveled to Botswana in 2017, (Opens in new tab) where they had dinner with the film's directors, Mark Linfield and Vanessa Barlowitz. She recorded her narration in 2019.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of bringing the elephant story to life," she said in the clip. Markle continued, "I was so fortunate to have real contact with elephants in their natural habitat," (also wearing a great button-up (opens in new tab)).

"When you spend time interacting with elephants and other wildlife, you really understand the role we play in their conservation and safety."

"These creatures are so majestic and at the same time so sensitive and so connected," Markle explained of her four-legged friends. 'We get to see in this film just how amazing they are. Their memory is amazing, their close auditory connection and their willingness to protect their children. They are more like us than they are different."

The film was produced in partnership with Elephants Without Borders, an organization in Botswana that works to reduce human-wildlife conflict in communities. Markle and Harry have visited Botswana many times (opens in new tab), and Botswana holds a special place in their hearts and was once on Markle's ring finger! How could she forget that the center stone of her engagement ring is from Botswana (opens in new tab)?

"I hope," Markle continued, "that people who see this film will be more aware of how connected we all are and the obstacles they face." Markle continued, "I think we would all come to care for each other, the planet and the animals in a very different way."
