Read MoreBeyonce, the Eternal Queen, has made a huge donation to coronavirus relief efforts. Through her charity initiative, BeyGOOD, she partnered with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's #startsmall fund to donate $6 million. [Beyonce's website (opens in new tab) begins, "Communities of color are suffering in epic proportions from the Covid-19 pandemic." Many families live in underserved neighborhoods with homes that make it difficult to practice social distancing. Communities that already lacked funding for education, health, and housing now face alarming infection and mortality rates. And these communities lack access to testing and equitable health care.
"Beyonce's BeyGOOD is assisting organizations that are on the ground 24/7, such as United Memorial Center, Bread of Life, and Matthew 25, to address these dire needs in some of the hardest hit areas, food, water, cleaning supplies, medicine, face masks, personal hygiene products, and other basic necessities."
"Without these basic necessities, the mental strain is accelerated," Beyoncé said in a statement, explaining that her donation will be used to "provide mental wellness services in Houston, New York, New Orleans and Detroit."
In total, Beyonce has donated to nine community organizations, as well as UCLA and Houston hospital United Memorial Medical Center, and urges fans to follow suit whenever possible.
