The latest birthday portrait of Princess Charlotte (opens in new tab) proves how quickly the 5-year-old royal is growing up before our eyes. We can all agree on that point.

But after seeing Charlotte's new birthday photo (opens in new tab), royal fans are divided on another point: which of her royal relatives does the young princess look most like?

Over the past few years, there has been a strong presence of people shouting from the rooftops how much Charlotte resembles a young Queen Elizabeth (opens in new tab). Here, for your comparison convenience, is Charlotte's new birthday portrait (opens in new tab) next to a photo from 1935, when Elizabeth was only a few years older than she is now:

But looking at the latest photo of the young princess, many royal fans are struck by how much she resembles her father, William Prince (opens in new tab), and while it may be hard to imagine now when thinking of William in 2020, the resemblance is clear when juxtaposing Charlotte's new birthday portrait with a photo of Will in 1988, shortly after his sixth birthday:

The eyebrows. The mischievous smile. We totally see it.

There is at least one relative who has stepped aside from the "who does Charlotte look like?" competition: her mother, Kate Middleton.

Last month, when Will and Kate's youngest son, Prince Louis (opens in new tab), celebrated his second birthday, sources close to Kate revealed that Louis is the only Cambridge child that Kate believes carries genes from the Middleton side (opens in new tab).

"Everyone is always commenting on how much Louis looks like Kate," the friend told People (opens in new tab)." She loves it and thinks it's very sweet; she often jokes that he's the only one of her children who actually looks like her!"
