Read MoreRoyal family drama (opens in new tab) is perhaps the most intriguing of all celebrity dramas. Even when royal fans know something is going on behind the scenes, the royals rarely mention the drama directly, leaving the details shrouded in mystery.
A new book, Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir From Queen Mary To Meghan Markle (opens in new tab), by Tom Quinn, is a fascinating look at what the royal family looks like behind closed doors (opens in new tab ), which aims to lift the curtain. It includes people who worked at the royal palace when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) were living together before the royal wedding.
In an excerpt from a book published by the Daily Mail (opens in new tab), sources describe the differences that led Meghan to clash with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton (opens in new tab), and eventually the Sussexes moved to Windsor (opens in new tab), He described the events that led to the decision to separate the household from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (open in new tab).
"Kate is, in fact, one of the nicest royals and has not let living in a very grand apartment in Kensington go to her head. She was very kind to the staff and was very warm to Princess Meghan when she arrived."
"She was also very kind to the staff and was very warm to Princess Meghan when she arrived.
According to the source, Meghan suffered from jealousy over her and Harry's relative position compared to Kate and her husband, Prince William, the direct heir to the throne (opens in new tab).
"I think she finds it difficult to cope," the source continued.
"Harry loved their cottage on the property, but Meghan was aware that it was tiny compared to the sprawling apartment complex where Kate and William lived."
A second source, said to be a former palace servant, agreed with that assessment and went a step further, detailing the events that led Harry and Meghan to split their household (opens in new tab) with Will and Kate's house (opens in new tab) and leave Kensington Palace.
"Kate was horrified when Megan yelled at Kate's staff - that was definitely the beginning of the discussion about leaving Kensington Palace," the former servant explained. Like many people who are not accustomed to dealing with servants, Princess Meghan over-asserts her dignity. So, on the one hand, she wants to be the people's princess, like Princess Diana, and on the other hand, she wants people to pay attention when she snaps her fingers.
Another source at Kensington Palace believes that Meghan's behavior is a result of the treatment she received (opens in new tab) when she joined the British royal family as a divorced, mixed-race American.
"There is a reactionary element in the royal family that looks down on her, and she knows it," the source said. 'That's why she sometimes overreacts. She has a hard time dealing with people who are firm like Kate."
There's a lot of tea here and we can't wait to read the full book when it comes out on May 14.
