Dakota Johnson on Directing Chris Martin's "Cry, Cry, Cry" Video

Dakota Johnson graces the summer cover of Marie Claire. In the issue, she talks about her upcoming film "High Note" and the projects she enjoys working on. Most recently, she directed a music video for her boyfriend Chris Martin's band. A few months ago, Coldplay released their new music video "Cry, Cry, Cry," but Johnson did not get the job solely because she is dating the Coldplay frontman.

"Like any director, I wrote the story and pitched it to the band," he said. Johnson and Martin have been dating since late 2017 (opens in new tab) and have kept their relationship very private.

The video she co-directed with documentary director Cory Bailey was released around Valentine's Day this year and took place at the Rivoli Ballroom in London (opens in new tab). No matter how big the project, Johnson's attention to detail is evident. She says she was meticulous about "every single detail," from the amount of confetti that touches the dance floor to the color of the shoelaces.

"When I'm working, I'm always thinking about work. I'm all about the work," she explains."

"Not every project has a good message, but every project has a little something that makes me feel like it's okay to pour my heart and soul into it.
