The 10-episode series was praised for its in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at Michael Jordan's final season with the Chicago Bulls (opens in new tab) and the team's championship run in the 1997-8 NBA season. Along with legendary stories about Jordan's career and personal life, each episode of the documentary was accompanied by an iconic playlist that evoked the nostalgia of the 80s and 90s. From Puff Daddy's "Been Around the World" featuring Notorious B.I.G. and Mase, a fitting opening to the documentary, to the final episode, the songs featured in "The Last Dance" were highlights for many viewers.

Many viewers marveled at the impressive playlist:

Rudy Chan, music supervisor for the series, explained in an article in the New York Times (opens in new tab): "Originally, the filmmakers thought about incorporating contemporary music throughout the series. "Originally, the filmmakers wanted to incorporate contemporary music throughout the series. Series director Jason Hehir added, "I think they quickly realized that it was best to tell the story with songs from that era."

Fortunately for those intrigued by the curation of iconic songs, ESPN, Netflix, and Spotify collaborated to release a playlist as an extension of the documentary. The playlist contains 55 songs, spanning nearly four hours and featuring all of the documentary's hits and songs inspired by it.

Although only 29 songs from the above playlist were included in the documentary, this perfectly orchestrated soundtrack will take you on a nostalgic journey through the 80s, 90s, and into the present day.
