Miley Cyrus' mother, Tish, cuts her hair into a very short pixie mullet.

For eight years in my teens and early twenties, I had extremely thick, extremely unkempt bangs. And I made the same mistake over and over again: instead of taking the bus to the salon and getting my bangs cut for free, I resorted to my father and his unwieldy kitchen scissors. Each time I convinced myself that my father would never mess up a simple one-inch trim, but each time I ended up looking like Spock.

Miley Cyrus is much more fortunate than I am in terms of "hair-cutting parents" (you are my hero, but your talents lie elsewhere). In an Instagram story, she showed off her short, spiky "pixie mullet." Miley also posted photos of Blondie's Debbie Harry and The Runaways' Shelley Currie, and shared some solid mullet inspiration.

Celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger, the designer of Miley's original, longer mullet, also posted a photo of the new cut, explaining that she mentored all of Tish's snips on FaceTime, as reported by People (opens in new tab), Hershberger revealed that Tish's finished handiwork did not match Miley's original vision at all: "Miley sent me a photo for inspiration, but this pixie mullet is an original inspiration photo is totally different from the original," she said.

Still, it is clear that Miley was pleased with the final look. It's so cool and bold to merge two styles into one and express her own sense of style," said Hershberger. She's a great client to work with because she's so open to trying new looks. We are both very happy with how the haircut turned out.
