Prince William talks about the risks of calling medical professionals "heroes."

Prince William has warned against calling healthcare workers "heroes" amid the coronavirus pandemic, explaining that it puts undue pressure on frontline workers and may prevent them from seeking mental health support In a video aired on the BBC's The One Show In the video, which was shown before his documentary "Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health" aired in the U.K., Prince William expressed concern that medical professionals would feel unable to seek help if they were branded a "hero."

"I think we have to be careful about the language we use," William said, reports the BBC (opens in new tab). He added: "[Medical professionals] should be praised as superstars, as brave, as great staff.

The Duke of Cambridge felt that medical staff "once they have this hero tag, they can't shake it off anymore, so they can't ask for support, they have to be this strong pillar, but what they actually need is a positive mental health example." He stated that he is afraid that he will end up He urged health care workers to seek their own support and care in order to emerge "safely" from the pandemic.
