Photographing the Queen riding a pony on the grounds of Windsor Castle

Avid readers of my corner of the Internet (I'm sure there are at least two), who quite coincidentally share my last name and are also my parents, will recall the article I wrote last month about how the Queen is keeping busy while sequestered (open in new tab) at Windsor Castle You will. Specifically, Vanity Fair magazine reports (opens in new tab) that the Queen is riding horses every day and dressing up for dinner with her husband and fellow quarantined member, Prince Philip.

On Sunday evening, the Royal Family kindly corroborated the accuracy of my reporting by tweeting a series of photos of the Queen riding her horse in a very formal outfit: tweed jacket, cream jodhpurs, white gloves, and shiny brown boots matching the brown studs on her pony. He kindly corroborated the accuracy of my reporting.

"Hungry for horse details" (welcome, fellow horsegirls!) According to the Independent, the pony is named Balmoral Fern, a 14-year-old Fell pony. Fern, as the royal family calls her, is also very shiny and cute!

The royal family also tweeted a series of historic photos of the queen with her beloved horse, writing that "Her Majesty has enjoyed riding since childhood and is closely involved in the welfare of the horses she owns for breeding, riding and racing."

Finally, as a horse girl who has been launched from the backs of many a pony and always, absolutely, invariably landed on her head, a word: I admit that the patterned headscarf is something of a signature look for you, but please wear a helmet, Elizabeth!
